About Me

Tong Wu (B.Eng'17, PhD'21) is currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor in ECE at the University of Central Florida. My research focuses on Closed-Loop AI for Engineering, developing safe, transferable, and physics-aware AI methods for networked systems, with applications in energy systems, financial markets, and autonomous driving.

Research Interests

My research interests center on Closed-Loop AI for Engineering: AI systems that sense, learn, optimize, and act in complex engineering environments while respecting physical constraints, safety requirements, and real-world feedback.

  • AI for Energy: safe and transferable AI for sustainable energy systems, power networks, optimal power flow, EV charging, grid foundation models, and resilient cyber-physical infrastructure.

  • AI for Financial Markets: simulation-based market intelligence and trading-gym-style market simulation environments for risk-aware decision making, reinforcement learning, and closed-loop strategy evaluation.

  • AI for Autonomous Driving: closed-loop learning and evaluation for intelligent transportation systems, including SUMO + vision, traffic scene understanding, multi-agent interaction, and safety-aware planning.

Methodologically, I work on safety-embedded AI, safe reinforcement learning, graph neural networks and graph signal processing, physics-informed and domain-informed learning, robust and risk-sensitive optimization, simulation-based evaluation, sim-to-real transfer, multi-agent systems, uncertainty-aware prediction and control, and foundation models for engineering decision-making.
